What is World of Warcraft?

World of Warcraft, often abriviated to WoW, is an MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game); developed and published by Blizzrad - that first released during 2004 and since then has had several expansions, introducing multiple playable races and classes. The setting is the fictional planet of Azeroth, and the story takes place about 4 years after the game Warcraft III. Throughout the years the fictional lands that are able to be explored have expanded with each expansion- such as the home of the Lich King, Northrend to the original home planet of the Draenei known as Argus.

How I started playing World of Warcraft?

I started playing during the expansion The Burning Crusade that was released during 2007 - I was 11 (year 5). I distinctly remember my mum's partner at the time buying it and playing it, then he got my mum involved and from there my brother and I - all on the downstairs family PC (what computer it was has been lost to time aka I don't remember). The exact words my mum used to convince me to play was "Humans are the enermy and you have to run back to find your body after you die" - she played an orc warrior and later an orc death knight. Looking through the playable races, I was drawn to the alien looking Draenei, so I played a bit with them as a mage, but something didn't feel right (the quests were boring to me), so I went back to the character select screen and picked a Blood Elf - and oh boy that was where the over 20 years of wow began, even long after my family stopped playing. I picked a Blood Elf hunter, I named Heartlock and played almost every day after school with this character, joined groups and raided while spending all my gold on ammo and trying to save for a mount (never did get that mount at the time). though sadly that original Heartlock is now lost to time as the account was never mine it was HIS and after a few incidents I had to say goodbye to WoW for a time. Though during Cataclysm the third expansion, my mum brought me my own WoW and set up an account for me under her name (Which I still have to this day). I remade my hunter and she is still one of two mains I play now (the other being a Pandarian Monk - my healing main). I will admit I don't play as often as I did as a child, but I still love the world and characters within this fictional universe. The story has been wishy washy over the years and there have been aspects I have not liked, which had stopped me from playing, but I took these more as breaks than moving away from WoW. I have also remade my Draenei and she is now my Alliance main (still find their quests boring). Currently when writing this Midnight is only a few months away and we return to Quel'thalas.
